Delving into the depths of cultural diversity and human imagination, Ashok Kumar's artistic journey transcends borders, weaving together threads of inspiration from France to New Delhi, India. Born on February 1st, 1965, in the vibrant landscapes of Bihar, India, Kumar's artistic odyssey began at the College of Art, Patna, where he emerged as a beacon of creativity, graduating with distinction in 1987.

Fuelled by a relentless pursuit of artistic excellence, Kumar embarked on a transformative voyage of learning, securing a coveted scholarship for advanced studies in fine art at “L’Ecole Superieure des Beaux-arts de Marseille, France”, in 1990. His dedication and talent were further recognized with a prestigious senior fellowship in painting from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in 2015-16, a testament to his enduring commitment to his craft.

Kumar's artistic repertoire is a kaleidoscope of imagery, a symphony of symbols and signs that speak to the human experience and our intrinsic connection to nature. Through his mesmerizing creations, he invites viewers into a realm of heightened consciousness and spirituality, where semi-figurative forms intertwine harmoniously with the organic world, evoking a sense of wonder and awe. His 800 (Approx) art works are in the collections of many museums in Europe, in Galleries in UK, Russia, Europe and India and with many private collectors.

He depicts aesthetically the semi-figurative human form with the relevant combination of nature and other organisms in his creation to explore the high consciousness and spirituality.

There are a few major achievements of his creation basically paintings participated in the International Biennale artists exhibition at LuminArte Gallery, Dallas, Texas 2011, attended Artists Residency at Il de La Reunion 2011 by FRAC Reunion, exhibited ‘cosmic conscious’ (a creation of painting and ceramic) at MOCA St. Denis which has been most appreciated by the people of La Reunion. RE-ART t (W)oo Recycling Art Exhibition in Ihlienworth, Hamburg, Germany 2013 one of the long period exhibition. Following major participation is ‘Masterstrokes’ during ‘Artist in Residence 2013 at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, India. Another distinguished participation is in the first Malaysian ‘ Langkawi Art Biennale 2014’ at Langkawi Island, Malaysia and The Sixth Beijing International Art Biennale (Memory and Dreams) at National Art Museum of China, Beijing, China 2015. In continuing there was a solo exhibition ‘Astonishing Effect at New Delhi India 2016, 12^th International art festival and workshop at Poh Chang Academy of art, Bangkok Thailand 2017, and a collective exhibition Imagining India at Lima, Peru 2017. There was an International art exhibition ‘Circle of Prayers’ at Sheraton, New Delhi, 2017. There is another art exhibition at India Habitat Center, an art camp in New Delhi in 2017. ‘Ecstasy Within’ at Jehangir art gallery, Mumbai 2017.  3^rd Malaysia art Biennale 2018 and International festival at Udaipur India 2019 are included.  He has received an award senior fellowship in painting for 2015-16 from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India 2017.  It was amazing to exhibit his work on ARTSY PAGE by ACS Gallery, Chicago, USA, 2017. Ashok kumar est un artiste né dans le Bihar, au nord de l’Inde. Son travail procède d’une chose, que en est à la fois le motif et le moteur :la ligne. Celle-ci traverse l’espace à la manière d’une ficelle : elle s’y déploie en ligne brisée, ligne souple, pliée, éntirée ou bouclée pour donner le jour à l’imbrication des formes. Cette ligne qui sillonne, le lieu pictural semble se modifier par delà les femmes, les crocodiles et tous les personnages que sont l’horizon, le carré, le soleil et le rebord ; changeant ainsi de texture, de densité, de couleur, de tension, de forme ou de longueur au fil des figures qu’elle parcourt comme au cours des parcours qu’elle figure.

Disons que cette ligne est le sujet effectif de ce dessin. Ainsi ce travail est entièrement tourné vers ses propres modalités. De telles préoccupations l’inscrivent dans la modernité picturale, telle qu’on la voit chez Paul Klee par exemple et l’un des aboutissement consisterait a ne s’occuper plus que de la ligne, en admettant qu’elle soit sa propre figure, et non de ce qu’elle cerne comme image qui deviendrait alors envisageable comme prétexte, c'est-à-dire une condition parmi d’autres possibles. Ci cette modernité est historiquement inspirée de l’orient, disons que cette même histoire fait en sorte qu’elle y revienne, par l’océan pacifique. Ashok kumar l’a lui-même rapportée de ses séjours en Europe avec l’empreinte stylistique que laisse nécessairement un tel va et vient.

Lors de son séjour à Paris, Ashok Kumar  avait visité, parmi de nombreux musée, le musée d’Orsay. C’est dans ce même musé, bien des années pus tard, devant une série de papiers découpés de Matisse que mon esprit s’est soudainement déplacé vers New Delhi, dans l’atelier de l’artiste Ashok Kumar. C’est avec la lenteur et l’amplitude des courbes qui s’étirent se frôlent, qui se combinent, que l’artiste met en œuvre le grand chantier de la peinture.  Les courbes et les plis qui froissent la surface du tableau, nous font entendre les vibrations du visible et de l’invisible, les tableaux et les dessins font apparaître à celui qui regarde, des paysages « d’ici » et de «  la bas ».
Dans l’œuvre du peintre, le visible et l’invisible ont la même valeur, enchevêtré l’un dans l’autre, ils forment un seul matériau,  indissociable, soumis à la même temporalité ils se déplacent sur la même trajectoire, vers le même point de fuite. La surface vibrante formée par l’imbrication des courbes et des couleurs posées au bon  endroit, donnent au tableau la force du silence, le silence qui deviens le centre de gravité de l’artiste .Les couleurs dans le travail de Ashok proviennent  des plis de la terre, de l’ombre que le feuillage projette sur le sol , de la poussière qui colore le ciel , il a dans les tableaux
de l’artiste un horizon minéral qui nous fait ressentir l’immobilité impassible des pierres caressés par le vent . Le minéral qui s’impose dans les tableaux déplace le regardeur vers le paysage, a regardé de près, il s’agit d’un paysage humain. La figure humaine est envisagée comme un un paysage au courbes sensuelle dans lequel, homme, animal, arbre et poussière ne font qu’un. C’est en réfléchissant à cette unité que nous imposent les tableaux d’Ashok que mon esprit revient vers le nord de l’Europe au loin  dans la  Bielorussie  qui inspira l’œuvre de Marc Chagall et plus tard Bram van Weld.
AshokKumar est un artiste qui regarde la peinture, comme un artiste qui regarde son époque et sa culture L’œuvre d’AshokKumar est animée par la curiosité,  en ce sens le travail  de l’artiste d’AshokKumar est une œuvre savante qui nous fait comprendre qu’un territoire sensible, agité par la connaissance, la curiosité et la spiritualité.
